Simple Life in Overseas with No Maid

Maybe we who live in Asia, especially in Indonesia have been spoiled by having maids around. For people in Medan, North-Sumatra, Indonesia, it's very common to have at least a maid in every household. We talk about people who are working or maybe those people with middle to higher income.

I imagine those working married-couple who have baby or infant or toddler. They still need to work and do household work and need to wake up in the middle of the night just to make formula milk. It's very tiring.

Dave nanny's quit due to her moving to another island at the end of the month; and it's time to look for a new nanny. She quit without notice on Monday. Very irresponsible, but then she's just a maid. What do you expect? Even professionals can be irresponsible also. Well, back to the topic. So, Monday and Tuesday with no maid. Have to do Dave's laundry by myself. Chasing him around for a couple hours, cooking his meal; it's just like working for couple of days.

I have to teach in the afternoon, so I have to leave Dave at home with his granny. Even his granny cannot handle him for a long time. But then, who can?

I imagine myself stay in overseas (developed countries). Life is nice for the long term, starts from the system that they have, health care, retirement plan, and such and such... But then there are a few things that am going to miss also, such as the transports, flexibility to have helper, and the best thing is no need to queue when we want to extend our license, passport... There's always a solution for a cheap agent.

I do miss Medan life a lot. Maids are everywhere, and doing everything that we requested. Even for simple things like cooking instant noodle!

And then the food. And then the hair saloon, massage, etc. It's just sooooo cheap there!

And yes, now that you mentioned it, for any legal documents, we can just hire runners. Ouch..., didn't even need to check in for tickets/luggage in airport!
