This will be my first blog. A few days after the delivery, lots of fresh ideas still stick in my brain. However, after the confinement 30 days, everything seems to fly away. It’s pretty hard for me to gather everything back. Still, I’m trying to write a bit. Some of you might wonder why I didn’t write it down on paper or type it during the confinement. One reason is I’m pretty superstitious sometimes. Yes, educated and superstitious at the same time. Old man said that during confinement, it’s suggested to avoid reading newspaper or book; watch television (any electronic device that acquire lots of energy from eyes); can’t cry, they can cause blind in the future. Do not sit down too often as your waist will get sore in the future. Technically, just have a total bed-rest during confinement. If possible let your mid-wife do everything for you if you have one.
Flash back to that day Friday, 19th October 2007. Early in the morning after breakfast, Mr. accompanied me to the hospital, RSIA Rosiva. We chose RSIA Rosiva because this hospital is specialized in mothers and children. It’s not really due yet; however, since I decided to go for C-Section then I had to do it earlier. Two days before it due I went to the doctor and the doctor said the baby is ready to come out. I read and heard a lot about the effect after the C-Section, but then I couldn’t take the risk doing normal delivery. Basically, I scared that it would pain twice, as the normal delivery not succeed then had to do C-Section.
Once we arrived at RSIA Rosiva, we went to the 2nd fl. Since we arrived a bit earlier, then we have to wait. It’s pretty tired for me to walk here and there as my weight increased too much already, almost 30 kg. Unbelievable. Then, we just sat down there. It’s pretty scary to be there and heard other people delivery their babies (normal). An hour before delivery, it’s my turn now. Everything is being cleaned and changed to the operation cloth. Then they sent me to the 1st fl., the operation theatre. Dr. Djamin K. was there already.
The theatre was pretty small. I was pretty scared also as it was my first time. If I picture the operation theatre, they have the operation light and a single operation bed only. They put me on the operation bed and tied my hand at each side; so I couldn’t move my hands at all. Before that, I had to sit down on the operation bed as the anesthetist did his job. It’s pretty sore on the waist. I heard it’s going to get worse in the future. The doctor was there already, but then the epidural can only work half an hour after that.
Half an hour later, the doctor was ready for the operation. I couldn’t see the process as there was a thing covered on my chest between my head and the lower part. The doctor was ready with the operation. He started to cut my stomach first layer and asked if I could feel it or not. Yes, I could feel it. The doctor said it’s normal if you can feel what I did on your stomach but the question is can you feel the pain. I said yes. I guess I still could feel the pain.
That was my last sentence. An hour later I woke up and I just realized that the doctor put me to sleep. Everything was fixed. I missed my baby first cried. The doctor said that I look anxious, that’s why he put me to sleep. I admit that I am a bit worry of my baby. Is everything complete and healthy? A few minutes later, I felt the cold. It’s extremely cold as it went to my heart. I never experienced this kind of cold before, not even when I was in Winnipeg during the winter. They said it’s the effect from the medicine. After that, they put me to the ICU room. It’s the procedure, to make sure that everything is under control. It took a while before I got back my body temperature. In the ICU room, my tear just runs down with no reason. Mr. asked my why I cried. I can’t even answer him as I myself also didn’t know why. The tears just run down my cheeks…
Back to the Room
From the ICU, since everything is under control, they put me to the patient’s room. It’s one person double-bed room. However, the bed is really soft. It’s not that comfortable. The pain-killer (epidural) medicine starts to decrease, the pain was there. I tried not to use the additional pain-killer as often as possible. However, sometimes it just felt so good (no pain) if I use it. By the way, do not invite jokers to your room. Laugh can make it really hurts. The next day (second day), I were encouraged to get down from the bed. It’s quite hard but then I attempted to do that. Of course, I always needed the help. Mr. has been very helpful to be there all the time, day and night. It’s really a fortunate that Mr. was still on his Idul Fitri’s holidays.
Baby Dave Bryan Tanady
Dave was born 3.6 kg with 50 cm tall. On one side, I wouldn’t say that he’s heavy as I increased so much weight. However, I realized that I didn’t eat healthy also. There were so many things that I ate during the pregnancy. Most of them are not healthy food. One another side, he’s quite big as it’s quite easy to carry him. On the 4th day, it’s time to go home. Mr. did all the administration things to leave the hospital. When things are settled, the nurse brought Dave to the room. She said that Dave is a bit yellowish, but it’s okay. We just need to sunbathe him every morning between 7 to 9. I realize that during my pregnancy, I didn’t check what caused the yellowish. I thought every child is yellowish and they will get better after. People said the yellowish will disappear after the confinement. Not necessary check with the doctor. In my case, Dave’s yellowish still there though it’s getting better. Not much sunbathe that he can have here as it is end of the year, rainy season.
